Twilight: Eclipse director David Slade will helm The Last Voyage of the Demeter

Twilight: Eclipse director David Slade will helm The Last Voyage of the Demeter

David Slade has signed on to direct the film THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER, which is not surprisingly about, wait for it…vampires. The film follows a ship that is transporting Dracula’s coffin from Transylvania to London and the crew gets picked off one by one, ala Ripley Scott’s ALIEN. One lone survivor who has gone mad washes up on shore with a copy of Bram Stoker’s classic novel. Right now Noomi Rapace and Ben Kingsley are attached to star in the film, but that was confirmed so long ago when the film had director Stefan Ruzowitsky on board. Noomi Rapace is so busy these days she may end up dropping out. And as of now the lead role has not been cast but the studios are looking. Financing is still elusive so we don’t know when this will get off the ground and start shooting.
I think David Slade must have a really soft spot for the bloodsuckers, which is surprising since it didn’t seem that he was too thrilled with his whole TWILIGHT: ECLIPSE experience. I will say that THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER does sound more his style and I’m anxious to see what he does with it because the story does sound pretty cool.
